Your Guide to Living Well in Lubbock

Lubbock Relocation Guide

Start Before
the House Hunt.

Before you choose a house, narrow down the Lubbock neighborhood that fits your life. Explore school districts, homes near Texas Tech and the Lubbock medical district, properties with land, luxury homes, and neighborhoods worth seeing while you're here.

Plan Your Move to Lubbock

Explore Lubbock

Find the community
that feels like home.

Start with Lubbock itself, then explore the school districts and surrounding communities that shape how people live across the South Plains.

01

Lubbock

Explore the city’s neighborhoods, everyday destinations, and current homes for sale.

02

Frenship ISD

Covering west and southwest Lubbock along with Wolfforth, Frenship is the area's largest district at roughly 12,000 students. A go-to choice for families wanting a great school district.

03

Lubbock-Cooper ISD

Covering south Lubbock, Lubbock-Cooper is one of the fastest-growing districts in the region. A strong fit for families prioritizing newer schools and newer construction.

04

Wolfforth

11 miles (about 15 minutes) southwest of downtown Lubbock. Zoned to Frenship ISD. The fastest-growing community on this list, with population up more than 50% over the last decade — new construction, larger lots, and easy access back into the metro via US-82.

05

Shallowater

12 miles (about 18 minutes) northwest of downtown Lubbock. Home to its own district, Shallowater ISD. A smaller, close-knit community along US-84 with a slower pace and more space per dollar than in-town options.

06

Ransom Canyon + Buffalo Springs Lake

9–12 miles (about 15–20 minutes) east of downtown Lubbock. Zoned to Roosevelt ISD or Slaton ISD depending on the address. The area's lake-and-canyon setting is unlike anywhere else nearby — waterfront lots, walking trails, and a built-in weekend-getaway feel without leaving the county.

07

Abernathy

19 miles (about 20–25 minutes) north of Lubbock via I-27. Home to Abernathy ISD, recognized by Texas Monthly as a top district in English-Language Arts. A tight-knit small-town setting for buyers who want more land and a lower price point while staying within commuting range.

08

Idalou

10–12 miles (about 15–20 minutes) northeast of Lubbock via US-82. Home to Idalou ISD, a small district known for small class sizes and strong teacher-to-student ratios. Close enough for an easy commute, with the acreage and small-town character that's harder to find inside city limits.

For Sellers

Thinking About Selling?
Start With the Address.

Start with a current home-value estimate, then put that number in context with local inventory, condition, timing, and the move you are planning next.
